Happy Ending

This time last year, things weren’t going too well for me. My best friend is moving to the USA and I’d also had a big argument with my cousin. Friends invited me out, but I didn’t really want to see them. I spent a lot of time training roller skaiting.

Everything changed for me the day I saw a programme about the professional girl, who do classes of roller skaiting in Barcelona. I became much optimistic and enthusiastic. My friends made me realize that I should be a bit more positive. I found out that sportsters in my town were training with a professional girl too, so I started to go in it.

These days, I feel much happier. I feel more sociable and useful. If I hadn’t seen the programme, I’d never have had the opportunity.

Everyone was sleeping in the plane; we had just arrived to Italy! All the class started to take photos and shouted. We were very excited. Outside the airport, a bus, was waiting for us. After a while we went to Rome. We visited the Coliseum, the Pantheon, the Fontana di Trevi, the Vatican, the Museum of Vatican, Venice Square, some churches…

On Wednesday morning we visited the “Vasílica de Santa Maria degli Angeli” and at midday we took a train and we went to Florència. In there, we visited the Ponte Vecchio, La Signoria, the Duomo, the Uffizi, the Academy of Art, In Florència, we had free time for lunch at a pizzeria.

The next morning, we had breakfast in the hotel and took the bus to go to the centre of Pisa. There we visited the famous Tower of Pisa, the Baptisterio and the Duomo. Then we had lunch in a restaurant. We ate pasta, meat and a delicious ice-cream. We thought that Pisa is incredible, especially for its tower!

This trip was fantastic! The whole class, had a fantastic days that we will remember forever!

Writing: AN OPINION ESSAY

Should that the government introduce school on Saturday mornings?

The government's planning to introduce a new law which will mean that students go to school on Saturday morning in order to improve the level of education. In my opinion, this would have some negative consequences.

In the first place, I believe that the students won't study much, because they'll become more tired and bored of both work. The teachers will have to go to school, and they must prepare more work for students. I think that the teachers haven't got more time, but they're have more job. As a consequence the teachers will have more problems with students.

In conclusion, I disagree with that law. There must be a better alternative. If they introduce Saturdays in school, people don't be motivated for school and they become bored.

IS TECHNOLOGY TAKING OVER OUR LIVES???

Are you a tangled mess of BlackBerrys, emails, PDAs, iPhones, laptops, and cell phones? In my opinion, a few people are addicted to technology. They haven't got any idea to the reality. They are in their world; only think about the computer games, TV programs, Internet, xats, etc. But the rest of the people, make a good use of the technology.
I am not a tangled mess of BlackBerrys, emails, PDAs, iPhones, Iaptops, and cell phones. I make a good use of the technology. I use the technology to search information, communicate, entertainment, talk with my friends, I heard the news from around the world, etc. I think the technology is the future, it leads to new inventions, and these new ideas and different ways of thinking about the world. Its only objective is meeting needs and wish humans.
I think up here is fine to use new inventions and gadgets. From here there are people who start using it in so in so and just can’t stand without using it. They closed to the world of videogames, the cell phone, lapdop, etc.. and not related to anything or anyone who isn’t related to his addiction.
In conclusion, it is clear to me that we make a good use of the technology. And we must use all the resources it offers.

WRITING: WRITHE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR VIEW OF THE WORLD

Hi everybody. My name is Tània Omedes and I’m a student in Casa Nostra school in Banyoles. I’m interested in music and sport. Some of my friends are into sport too. The people who I spend most time with are my cousin Aina and my friend Albert. The thing which I like best is training roller skating in Girona and meeting with my friends in Banyoles. I don’t like watching TV and playing computer games.

I don’t think that the world is a bad place, although I think we could improve it if we shared things more with each other. There aren’t many things that make me angry, but one thing that annoys me is when people are ignorant.

As far as the future is concerned, it sometimes worries me that we won’t have peace. I find it a bit frightening that there’s always a war somewhere in though.

THE TRANSCRIPTION

Okay, let's get started. Hello everybody, my name is Tània and I’m student at Casa Nostra School. Today I talk about the interesting car: the Mini.

The Mini is a small car that was made by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 until 2000.

The car of the 1960 was a tiny car called Mini. The designer was an engineer, Alec Issigonis. He designs a car which was much smaller than others. It was only tree meters long. It cost 500£, so became very popular with young people and families.

The royalty used to drive Minis as well. For example, Prince Charles arrived at university in a Mini in 1967.

By the late 1960, the company was producing enormous quantities of Minis in factories in England.

Some people used to paint their Minis in bright colours. Other people tried to get as many people as possible inside them. They want to get a new world record!

By the end of the decade, the Mini had even been the star of a popular British film called The Italian Job. It had won a lot of races too.

Although the car became less fashionable in later decades, people had bought over five million Minis by the year 2000.

Then in 2001, a new Mini was born. The new Mini was bigger and more modern car. But it was just as stylish as the classic Mini.

Today, the German car company produces the Mini at this factory in Oxford.

The factory has got a lot of computers and robots to do some of the work. Factories didn't use to have these in the 1960. The factory makes over seven hundred Minis every day.

These days, you don't need to paint your own Mini – they are available in nearly any colour! The Mini was a 1960 icon that never really went out of fashion.

I think the Mini is a comfortable and fashionable car and I like it.

Thanks for listening to me.

WRITING: WRITING ABOUT PLANS FOR A VISIT

Hi Emily,

I think you will like Banyoles. On Saturday morning, we're going to visit the lake because I really want you to know my city. We will free in the afternoon, so we will probably meet some of my friends, and we could either walk around the city of go to a Darder museum.

On Sunday morning, we could get a bus somewhere. There is some typical village around here, like Girona. We can go to Girona with my friends. In the morning, we visit the cathedral and the wall itinerary. We will be free in the lunch, but I think we're going to go in a beautiful and different restaurant. Do you agree? Because I need to book it! In the afternoon it's up to you. I expect we will end up in one of the cafés in the sopping centre.
We're going to meet you at the airport on Saturday, so can you remind me what time your plane gets in?
Looking forward to seeing you.

  • OK. And how much is the trip? We've got student cards.
  • Let's see. Well, in that case it's 8 pounds per person. The full price is 12 pounds.
  • That's fine. We'll go on Thursday, then. Do we need to book it?
  • I'll book it for you if you like. Can I take your names?

THE DECADE 2000-1010.

The decade 2000-2010 was a decade which people remember for many reasons. There were good times and happy events such as music festivals. There were also difficult times, for instance attacks of 11th of September (2001) against the Twin Towers in New York.

In the world of music, the best-selling artists of the decade were Eminem, Beyoncé, Cristina Aguilera and Britney Spears. In cinemas, Clint Eastwood was a big hit. There were five Eastwood films between 2003-2008. Fashions were interesting – it was the era of branded clothing.

By the end of the decade, the world was a different place. Inventions such as the iPods, USB flash drive, the iPhone and the automotive navigation system.

ASK FOR ADVICE ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP

Hi Paul

We've been on holiday here in Italy for two weeks now and I've just met his guy, Marc.
We've got a lot in common and he's gorgeous, but I'm not sure how I feel about him. I need your advice.

I met him on the round last Friday and he invited me to visit the town. Both of us were having a real laugh and then Marc invited me to go to the cinema with his friends. When I said goodbye, he walked to the taxi stop with me. Neither of us could stop talking and we flirted a lot.

I've been thinking about things a lot since then. I'll probably see him tomorrow, but I'm not sure what to do if he asks me out. He seems different when he's with his friends. What do you reckon?

Halloween

HALLOWEEN HISTORY

Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints.

Originally Halloween was a pagan festival, around the idea of linking the living with the dead, when contact became possible between the spirits and the physical world, and magical things were more likely to happen. Like most pagan festivals, long ago it was absorbed into the festivals of the expanding Christian church, and became associated with All Hallows Day, or All Saints Day, which eventually fell on November 1.
The celebration of Halloween survived most strongly in Ireland. It was an end of summer festival, and was often celebrated in each community with a bonfire to ward off the evil spirits. Children would go from door to door in disguise as creatures from the underworld to collect treats, mainly fruit, nuts and the like for the festivities. These were used for playing traditional games like eating an apple on a string or bobbing for apples and other gifts in a basin of water, without using your hands. Salt might be sprinkled on the visiting children to ward off evil spirits. Carving turnips as ghoulish faces to hold candles became a popular part of the festival, which has been adapted to carving pumpkins in America.

The day is often associated with the colours black and orange, and is strongly associated with symbols like the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

In July, I stayed in Banyoles. I was training roller skating every morning. And in the afternoon I met with my friends. We did different things. We went in swimming pool, in Aquabrava, in parties, in a camping...

And finally, I talk about my travels in August.
In August, I stayed in Palamós two weeks with my family. In the morning, we went to the beach because the days were very warm! In the evening we went shopping in the village. And in the night we had a dinner with our firends.

Also we went one week in Estartit with my cousins.
I think that this summer was better than other because I have lived through a lot of new experiences. Thanks for listen to me.
